Cravings: Bringing fine Filipino food choices and homemade ingredients to the world

For 18 years, Cravings has captured the appetite of the young and the old. From its humble beginnings as a takeout shop along Katipunan, it is now hailed as one of the most successful restaurant chains in the metro.

From the success of Cravings Restaurant, owners, Annie and Badjie Guerrero have welcomed more business ventures as they founded the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA) and C2 Restaurant respectively. CCA, one of the premier culinary schools in the country, began as a summer program for kids ages 6 to 12. While C2 Restaurant, established five years ago, is a fine dining restaurant that offers stylized Filipino dishes.

Meanwhile, culinary adventure does not end there.

With its delectable cuisines, many wondered as to how Cravings prepares a variety of Filipino and continental dishes. Good thing that the Guerreros unselfishly share their ingredients to success.

Aside from their great passion for food, Annie sets time on research and development (R&D). She sees to it that she introduces something new to her customers as well as to her staff. Food menus, delicacies, and other food specialties are part of Annie’s R&D for the Cravings Group. She also spends time at the main branch’s garden growing special herbs and plants which she uses to concoct her own brand of salad dressings, sauces, and condiments.

A fridge-full of indigenous homemade products

Annie’s version of salad dressings was a hit among Cravings’ customers. The unique mixture of special herbs is the signature of the Cravings salad dressings.

One of the most popular homemade salad dressings at Cravings is the malunggay pate. This unique concoction made from malunggay leaves and cheese is a favorite at the Cravings salad bar. Aside from the pate, Annie also came up with the strawberry vinaigrette, borsin, and Cravings Caesar salad dressing. Most of the homemade dressings are served at the Cravings salad bar and are exclusively sold at the Cravings Restaurant.

Another ingenious creation of Susana is the palabok kit. Convenient and easy to use, the Cravings palabok kit is the answer to any mom’s dilemma of preparing a palabok sauce. It was an instant hit at the restaurant that it gave her the idea to export her homemade goodies.

Filipino food for the world

Philippines has a wide variety of great, mouth-watering foods! Signature dishes and delicacies such as adobo, sinigang, dried mangoes, pili nuts are a favorite among locals and foreigners. Our food products surely satisfy anyone’s cravings.

The Cravings Group is actively promoting Filipino cuisines and other food products here and abroad. Cravings aims to elevate the standards of the Filipino food industry. Through participations in local and international food exhibitions, the company was able to showcase Filipinos’ adept culinary skills, modernized food preparations and innovative array of food choices.

“We don’t want our foods to look like a typical Filipino carinderia. We wanted it to be more elevated and set Filipino food in an international way. Our foods should be stylized yet keeping the original flavor. Aside from the fact that Filipinos are basically talented in cooking, we also would like to take away the notion that Filipino foods are too greasy, too bland, or too sweet,” shares Roselle de Asis, Operations Manager for the Cravings Group.

As the international market opens its doors to Filipino foods, more food entrepreneurs develop an innovative array of products that would cater to a diverse foreign palette.

Setting the standards for great food and Filipino hospitality

Almost 2 decades now, Cravings offers to its clients quality food products. Its extensive research and development, meticulous preparations, and high-end service puts the Cravings Group on top of their game.

A never-ending improvement – this is how the Cravings Group describes the way they handle friendly competition in the food industry. “There’s a never-ending improvement in terms of monitoring, verifying, and maintaining the standards of the company,” Roselle points out.

Cravings has always been on the lookout for the latest food developments. For their chain of restaurants, the Guerreros make sure that only the freshest ingredients and state-of-the-art kitchen equipments are utilized. As for the food concoctions, Annie continues to experiment on different ingredients which they plan to continue exporting in Italy and other parts of the world.

Apart from good tasting food, the Cravings Group also capitalized on customer service. Almost like family, Cravings welcomes each client with a warm smile and celebrates with you as if it was an everyday family gathering. “We really focus on guests encounter. Like we already know what are the guests’ preferences once they come in. We try to be more intimate with our guests. It’s about how you treat them because traditionally, Filipinos are very maasikaso (caring). In Cravings, all the more,” Roselle quips.

Filipino food – a global attraction

White sand beaches, lush greeneries, bright mix of flora and fauna – scenic attractions you cannot resist! The Philippines had it all that’s why foreign guests frequent the country for the authentic Filipino experience.

But more than the destinations, Philippines gives you a bountiful feast of excellent food choices. From indigenous ingredients, local delicacies to classic Filipino cuisines, it is a mouth-watering food attraction served to fill your gastronomic desires.

Cravings sees the value of making Filipino food an attraction to foreign tourists. This makes the Philippines memorable to different nationalities who can’t get enough of the true Filipino flavor.

The company supports the government in its effort to promote tourism as well as business in the country. The Department of Tourism (DoT), for example, has recognized the competitiveness of our Filipino foods in the global market. Thus, the agency has promoted several restaurants, including Cravings, in the WOW! Philippines campaign. The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) also supports the local food industry in its quest for international recognition. Through its trade event, International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines, CITEM showcases the best Filipino foods to the rest of the world.

And Cravings has always been a part of that! Giving you the finest delicacies, Cravings Group will not stop exploring more food choices. As they head for more flavorful years, Cravings hopes to add more restaurants which offers stylized Filipino dishes. They also plan to do international franchising for the C2 Restaurant. And after the success of the Cravings food concoction in previous IFEX shows and other international food festivals, they also plan to continue exporting the unique brand of salad dressings and other food specialties.
